01/ Overview

The route

The impressive harbour facilities and the Three Countries Bridge mark the international location of this stage. In the Krebsbachtal Nature Reserve, you can explore the habitat of many plant and animal species. In Friedlingen, you can find out about the important history of textiles.

The starting point in Haltingen is some distance from public transport; the nearest stop, Basel, Weil am Rhein Grenze, is around three kilometres away. From the German village, the waymarked hiking trail initially leads through open countryside. Near Maienbühl, the route soon reaches its highest point at around 270 m. From there, the profile remains gentle, with only about 90 metres of ascent in total.

As Basel draws closer, meadows and fields give way to dense development. The urban section begins roughly halfway along the route. The Dreiländereck lies slightly off the route. Towards the end, the Saint Louis Buvette, located directly on the trail, offers a welcome place to stop for refreshments.

In Basel, the route passes close to the Predigerkirche, the city’s Christian Catholic church. It then continues through the final neighbourhoods to Schifflände. After around nine kilometres and just over two hours, the hike ends only a few steps from the Basel Schifflände stop.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
