Emmenuferweg, Stage 2/4

The second section of the Emmenuferweg is also the most rugged. From Sörenberg the hiking trail meanders along deep ravines and high cliffs down to Schüpfheim in the main valley of the Entlebuch.

The hike begins at the Sörenberg, Post bus stop, already the highest point on the route, at around 1,150 m near the Hagleren. The hiking trail leaves the village and passes Chäs Stübli Ochsenweid. It descends across open meadows and pastures, with a few short uphill sections; stretches of woodland in between lend the long route a gentle rhythm.

After Hüttlenen, the trail approaches Flühli. It crosses the built-up area by the Catholic Church of St. Josef, after which pastures, isolated houses and woodland once again alternate. The route remains on the marked hiking trail almost throughout and loses considerably more elevation over the course of the hike than it gains.

In the final third, the route passes the Church of St. Niklaus and enters the Wissämmewald. It continues past Gasthaus Bad before the Sagenwäldli provides the final woodland interlude. Soon afterwards, Schüpfheim begins; from there, it is only a few more steps through the village to Schüpfheim railway station.
