01/ Overview

The route

Cross-country skiing with a view: It’s not only the effort of completing this course that will take your breath away – so will the fantastic views of our magnificent mountain landscape.

From the Engelberg, Sporting Park stop, it is only a few steps to the start of the roughly eleven-kilometre trail. It initially leads out of the built-up area and across the open ground by the golf course. With no steep climbs, the route gains height steadily, while the valley floor and wooded slopes dominate the scenery.

In the middle section, the trail follows the FĂĽrenbach upstream into the valley for around three kilometres. Open terrain now alternates with stretches of woodland. About halfway along, near Ruchberg, lies the highest point at just over 1,100 m. The circuit then turns back towards Engelberg, losing the elevation gained earlier.

Towards the end, the trail crosses the valley floor once more and approaches the first houses. After just under three hours, it finishes back at the Sporting Park, not far from the stop of the same name.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
