01/ Overview
The route
The Geoweg Bärschwil leads across meadows and through forests to its highest point near Misteli. Marked hiking trails alternate with unmarked sections, with the Wendelins-Kapelle on the descent.
From the Bärschwil, Hölzlirank bus stop, the route initially climbs out of the village to open meadows and into the forest. The Geoweg Bärschwil is part of «Erlebnis Geologie» and explores the surroundings of the village. The route covers just over twelve kilometres and around 500 metres of ascent. Alongside yellow-marked hiking trails, it also follows longer sections outside the marked hiking network. After the steepest climb, the highest point is reached near Misteli at around 830 m.
The trail then alternates between forest and open countryside. The Ober Fringeliflue lies to the side of the route on the wooded ridge; the trail then gradually returns to the houses of Bärschwil. In the final third, it passes directly by the Wendelins-Kapelle. Towards the end, the houses once again give way to forest and meadows as the descent continues farther down into the valley. After around three and a half hours, the hike ends at Bärschwil Station, just a few steps from the bus stop of the same name.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
