01/ Overview
The route
Enter the dragon’s lair, in a valley full of legends, following a river that tells the story of part of the industrial past of the town of Fribourg and the surrounding area.
From the Fribourg, Petit-St-Jean stop, the nine-kilometre circular hike initially leads through the urban area. It soon leaves the houses behind and enters extensive woodland. The yellow-waymarked hiking trail climbs gently. Around Ameismühle and Schürmatt, wooded sections alternate with open meadows and pastures.
After about two-thirds of the route, the trail reaches its highest point at around 720 m. From here it descends again, initially through rural surroundings and later back into a built-up area. In Bourguillon, the trail passes close to the church of Notre-Dame de Bourguillon. A viewpoint shortly before the end provides a final highlight before the loop closes in Fribourg. A little over two and a half hours should be allowed for the hike, which involves around 320 metres of ascent; the start and finish are just a few steps from the Petit-St-Jean stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
