01/ Overview
The route
On this leg of the journey, you can recharge your batteries in the tranquillity of nature. The route connects Fribourg, founded by the House of Zähringen, with Payerne, a town created by Queen Bertha. Along the way, you will enjoy enchanting woodland, an idyllic spot to rest by the river, rural villages and a mini-enclave with a church of pilgrimage.
The starting point in Villars-sur-Glâne lies just over 300 m from the Belle-Croix stop. Right at the beginning, the route reaches its highest point at around 720 m. The yellow-waymarked hiking trail then leaves the houses behind, alternating between forest, meadows and open farmland. With more descent than ascent, the route gradually loses elevation over its roughly 20 kilometres; Noréaz is reached after just over two hours.
Lac de Seedorf lies around 400 m off the route and is not visited. Near Montagny-les-Monts, the castle ruins recall the former seat of power. Shortly afterwards, the Café-Restaurant des Arbognes stands directly beside the trail, before the route reaches Cousset.
In the final third, the trail passes the Catholic church of Notre-Dame de Tours and continues between open countryside, stretches of forest and settlements. Towards the end, the houses of Payerne come into view; near the Abbatiale, the route leads through the town to the destination. The Payerne public transport stop is only a few steps away.
