Gratweg Stoos

Renowned as one of Switzerland's finest high trails: the ridge path linking the Klingenstock and Fronalpstock peaks, with its many flights of steps. It affords views of more than ten Swiss lakes and countless Alpine peaks in Central Switzerland. You can also discover a variety of Alpine flowers along the route.

From Klingenstock station, the trail leads almost immediately to the highest point of the route. At around 1,930 m on Klingenstock, views open up across the Schwyz mountain landscape. The white-red-white waymarked mountain trail then continues through open pastures.

The short route initially descends significantly, remaining in open terrain. At Furggelenbirg, there is a fire pit directly beside the trail. After the lowest section, the route joins a wider hiking trail and reaches Furggelen.

From there, the trail climbs again. It approaches Fronalpstock across meadows, with its western slope dropping steeply to the Urnersee. After four kilometres and just under two hours, the hike ends at Fronalpstock station. Despite the short distance, the total ascent and descent each amount to around 400 metres.
