01/ Overview
The route
No need to look too far away – the Gurten has plenty to delight tobogganing fans. The descent down Bern’s local mountain is particularly appealing when the city disappears under a blanket of fog. Make sure you enjoy the view of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau from the observation tower before you start.
The short descent begins right by the Wabern, Gurten Kulm stop at around 840 m. The Gurten is Bern’s local mountain and a popular excursion destination; the sledging run starts on its wooded flank. Over just one kilometre, the route descends around 120 metres. The run takes about 15 minutes. Restaurant Bahnhöfli is located not far from the start, but the route heads directly downhill.
From Kulm, the route initially descends through the forest. Trees dominate the upper section and give the run a clearly defined setting. Further down, the forest gradually gives way to open meadows and pastures. The sledging run continues down the slope and reaches Wabern, Grünenboden at around 720 m. From there, it is a good 100 metres to the Grünenboden stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Sledding is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
