01/ Overview
The route
Romantic winter hiking trail high above Lake Thun, leading past the cantonal recuperation clinic and through glittering winter forests. Enjoy expansive views of the Bernese Alps above the fog line.
The roughly three-hour winter hike begins directly at the Heiligenschwendi, Alpenblick bus stop. After just a few steps, the houses are left behind and the route enters the forest. The longer ascent begins near the Hünibode fire pit. The circular route climbs through sections of forest and across open meadows into the area around Schwändiblueme. This mountain in the Emmental Alps lies between Teuffenthal, Schwendi and Schwanden and rises above Lake Thun.
The highest point is reached after just over four kilometres, at around 1,270 m. The route then gradually loses altitude, continuing to alternate between dense forest and open terrain. It curves back towards Heiligenschwendi in a wide arc. Towards the end, the trail descends to just under 1,100 m before a short counter-ascent leads to the first houses. After a total of nine kilometres, the winter hike ends back at the Heiligenschwendi, Alpenblick bus stop.
