Panoramaweg Niederhorn–Waldegg

Above Lake Thun, a continuous downhill trail from Mount Niederhorn to the hamlet of Waldegg. The combination of snow-covered mountains and views of Lake Thun is unparalleled. Enchanting vistas await you at 1950 metres above sea level.

From the Niederhorn station, the winter hike initially leads past the mountain restaurant. Shortly after the start, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,950 m. The long descent then begins. The route crosses open terrain to Alp Oberburgfeld, with short uphill sections adding some variety to this predominantly downhill trail.

Farther down, open slopes alternate with sections of forest. Gradually, trees come to dominate the scenery as the winter hike continues to lose altitude. The final third begins at Leimere. From there, the route leads down through the forest towards Beatenberg.

The ten-kilometre tour takes a little over three and a half hours. Around 140 metres of ascent are offset by approximately 880 metres of descent. Towards the end, the first houses of Waldegg come into view; a few steps later, the winter hike ends at the Beatenberg, Waldegg stop.
