01/ Overview
The route
From the tranquil Lombachalp, this winter hiking trail leads almost continuously downhill to Habkern, passing Alpine huts and animal tracks, crossing open terrain and damp meadows, with views down the valley throughout.
The journey starts with bus 106 from Interlaken West to Habkern Zäundli, followed by the Bus alpin service to Lombachalp-Roteschwand. The winter hike begins at the bus stop at around 1,560 m, which is also the highest point of the route. Via Lägerstutz, it leads into the wide-open landscape of the Lombachalp. Alpine huts dot the wintry scenery, and animal tracks can be spotted in the snow. With virtually no uphill sections, the trail heads down the valley, descending around 500 metres over the next few kilometres.
The route continues via Mad towards Schwendallmi. There, the winter trail leaves the road and descends across open terrain and alongside damp meadows. Beyond Schwendi, farms and houses become increasingly frequent; via Bolsiten, the trail approaches Habkern. After around seven kilometres and just over two hours, the route ends at the Habkern, Post bus stop, not far from the Gasthof Bären.
