01/ Overview
The route
A short winter circuit across the open Gassenegg, with views of Schiebengütsch, Hohgant and the Bernese High Alps. Benches and circling paragliders invite a pause along the way.
The Bretzeli cable car carries winter hikers from Marbach to Marbachegg. The circuit, just under two kilometres long, begins immediately by the top station at around 1,470 m, which is also the highest point of the route. From here, the panorama extends across Schiebengütsch and Hohgant to the Bernese High Alps. With a little luck, paragliders and hang-gliders can be seen above the open slopes.
With only minor changes in elevation, the winter hiking trail crosses the broad expanses of the Gassenegg. Benches offer a place to pause and enjoy the mountain views before the route turns at the boundary stone and heads back at a similar elevation. After just over half an hour, the houses of Marbachegg draw closer again. A few steps before the top station stands the Bergrestaurant Marbachegg, known for its Entlebuch Kafi Schnaps; the circuit ends directly at the Marbachegg stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
