01/ Overview
The route
This winter hiking trail takes you to the most scenic lookout points around Aeschi. Several benches invite you to linger and admire the views. The ever-changing views of the Frutigtal valley, Mount Niesen, Lake Thun and the peaks above the fog line are without equal.
The approximately six-kilometre winter hike begins in the heart of the village at the Aeschi b. Spiez, Post bus stop. The route climbs gradually between the houses and soon leaves the built-up area behind. Meadows and pastures now dominate the landscape; the gentle but steady ascent accounts for a large part of the approximately 200 metres of elevation gain.
Just over halfway around the circuit, the route reaches its highest point at just over 1,000 m. Across open countryside, it passes Restaurant Panorama a little later. The route then turns back towards Aeschi and initially descends at a leisurely pace. It continues across open ground to the first houses.
Towards the end, the trail re-enters the village completely. After a little over two hours, the winter hike ends back at the Aeschi b. Spiez, Post bus stop.
