01/ Overview
The route
The Springenboden winter hiking trail leads through snow-covered forests and meadows high above the valley floor of the Diemtigtal Nature Park. After an ascent, impressive views of the rear Diemtigtal and into the Simmental await.
The winter hike starts at Horboden on Springenboden. It is not served by public transport; the nearest stop, Horboden, Chirel, is just under two kilometres away. The roughly seven-kilometre circuit initially descends gently before crossing open meadows. As the route gains height, the forest draws closer, with some sections leading between the trees.
The ascent remains steady and totals around 240 vertical metres. After about five kilometres, the circuit reaches its highest point at around 1'500 m. From here, it heads back downhill, out of the forest and towards the pastures of Springenboden. Shortly before the end, the route passes Restaurant Springenboden. After just over two hours, the final arc leads across the open meadows and back to the starting point at Horboden, Springenboden.
