01/ Overview
The route
This popular winter walk on the sunny slopes of Adelboden has two particularly scenic spots at Höreli and Taubenfels along the way. Aside from the views over Adelboden, towards the end of the valley and into the mountains, this route also boasts enchanting snowy landscapes, forests and farmsteads typical of the Bernese Oberland.
From the Adelboden, Post bus stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point of this seven-kilometre winter hike. The circular route initially leads through the village and past the Schmitte-Stübli. The houses are then left behind as the trail climbs across open slopes. With increasing altitude, open terrain and stretches of forest alternate; the total ascent is around 260 metres. After about four kilometres, the highest point is reached at around 1'580 m in the Schwandfeldspitze area.
Shortly afterwards, the route reaches Taubenfels. This viewpoint lies in the heart of the forest and forms a striking highlight before the return to the valley. The trail now descends steadily and approaches Adelboden once more. The first houses appear near the Marktplatz; a little later, the winter hike passes the Bären on the way into the village centre. Standing directly on the route is the late-Gothic village church dating from the 15th century. The trail continues through Adelboden back to the starting point near the post office, reached after just over two hours.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Winter hiking is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
