01/ Overview
The route
This hike affords beautiful views into the Simmental and the Saanenland, western Bernese Oberland and the Vaud Alps. Equally as pleasing are the delightful meadows and quiet, clear pine forests on this peaceful plateau.
The winter hike begins almost immediately from the Zweisimmen, Sparenmoos bus stop. The seven-kilometre circuit leads out of Sparenmoos into open terrain and initially climbs gently. Crossing open ground, the route heads towards Schiltenegg and gains around 320 metres in elevation overall. The ascent continues well into the second half of the hike.
After a good hour and a half, the highest point is reached at Schiltenegg, at just under 1,800 m. Here, the circuit turns back. The descent continues mainly through open terrain, losing the elevation gained at a steady rate.
Towards the end, the route approaches Sparenmoos once more. After around seven kilometres and a good two and a half hours, the winter hike ends where it began, just a few steps from the Zweisimmen, Sparenmoos bus stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Winter hiking is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
