01/ Overview
The route
You are in for a wild experience: With the Wildstrubel massif and the wild spikes of Gastlosen in view, the winter hiking trail leads to Bäderegg through snowy meadows over the vast pass landscape.
The winter hike begins on the pass at the Jaunpass, Restaurant bus stop. The route immediately passes the Taverne and leaves the houses behind. It initially climbs gently across open terrain, gaining around 170 metres in elevation over six kilometres.
Higher up, the forest draws closer. The route sweeps in a wide arc towards Bäderegg, reaching its highest point at just over 1,650 m around halfway. The winter hiking trail then descends again through alternating woodland and open terrain. There are no long descents; the downward gradient is spread across the return leg.
After just under two hours, the loop closes back on the Jaunpass. The pass connects the Gruyère region of the canton of Fribourg with the Simmental in the Bernese Oberland, and the hike ends at the Jaunpass, Restaurant bus stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Winter hiking is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
