01/ Overview
The route
After leaving Saanenmöser, winter walkers reach Schönried via a hiking trail with forests on either side. The view on the Horneggli and Schönried is the highlight of this popular route.
The winter hike begins almost immediately from Saanenmöser railway station. The route first leads through the village and up to the Saanenmöser pass. The main road and railway line cross this pass, linking the Simmental with the Saanenland. The houses are soon left behind as the trail climbs gently across open meadows and pastures.
About halfway along, the route reaches its highest point at around 1'340 m, not far from the Hornfluh. The terrain remains open; minor ascents and short downhill sections provide a gentle alternation, without any major differences in elevation to negotiate.
In the final third, the route gradually descends towards Schönried. The first houses herald the approach to the village, after which the trail leads through the built-up area to the destination. After around five kilometres and just over an hour and a half, the winter hike ends near Schönried railway station.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Winter hiking is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
