01/ Overview
The route
Moderate winter hike at the edge of the Lenk–Betelberg ski resort with spectacular panoramic view of the mountains of the western Bernese Oberland. Also impressive: the bizarre Gryden.
From the Leiterli mountain station, the winter hike sets out almost immediately into open terrain. Berghaus Leiterli stands beside the trail right at the start, after which the route climbs over the broad, rounded ridge of the Betelberg. After just over half a kilometre, the highest point is reached at Leiterli, at around 2'000 m. This initial ascent accounts for a good proportion of the roughly 150 metres of elevation gain.
Beyond this point, the circuit descends in a wide arc. Meadows and pastures initially dominate the landscape; lower down, wet meadows and areas of moorland are added to the scene. After the lowest section, the route climbs gently once more to the starting point. Over its three kilometres, the trail remains easy to follow, yet leads through a remarkably open winter landscape. After just over an hour, the circuit ends back at the Leiterli mountain station.
