01/ Overview
The route
Panoramic hiking high above the rugged Lauterbrunnen valley, with fantastic views over the world-famous mountain trio of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The path ascends gently through light mountain forest and over meadows.
The winter hike begins at Grütschalp station at just under 1,500 m. The Grütschalp Bistro stands right by the starting point, after which the route climbs gently towards Mürren. Open meadows and pastures characterise long sections of the way, interspersed with quieter stretches through woodland. As the route gains altitude, meadow and forest alternate several times.
Over the four kilometres, around 190 metres of ascent must be tackled. The climb remains steady and continues uphill without any significant counter-ascent. Towards the end, the first houses of Mürren draw closer. Shortly before the destination, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,640 m, near Allmihubel.
After a good hour and a half, the winter hiking trail ends in Mürren. Mürren BLM station is just a few steps from the endpoint and provides onward connections.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Winter hiking is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
