01/ Overview
The route
A demanding mountain hike between sharp-edged karst and expansive moorland. From Hirsegg, the route crosses the Schrattenfluh and continues via Salwideli to Sörenberg.
From the Sörenberg, Hirsegg bus stop, the mountain trail leads across alpine pastures to the Schlund alpine restaurant. Beyond it, the route climbs steeply towards the Schrattenfluh. Meadows and moorland increasingly give way to pale, deeply fissured limestone. The highest point of the route lies among the limestone pavements at around 2,060 m; sure-footedness is essential on the sharp-edged rock of the Schrattenfluh.
The route continues via Türstehäuptli towards Schiebengütsch, then descends to the unattended Chlus SAC hut. A cave system extends beneath the limestone slabs of the Schrattenfluh. Farther down, pastures and wet meadows replace the rocky terrain; a barbecue site lies beside the Bärselbach before Alp Schneeberg.
The moorland section of the hike begins at the Salwideli mountain inn. The trail continues to Rossweid, from where the gondola provides a shortcut down to Sörenberg. On foot, the hiking trail descends through forest and across open countryside to the centre of Sörenberg; the Sörenberg, Post bus stop is just a few steps away.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
