Hochtal Val Frisal

The Val Frisal Plateau is one of the most beautiful high valleys of the Alps. A wide view of the valley shows a vast floodplain with branching rivers. The Scatlé ancient spruce forest is another highlight of this hike.

The hike begins at the Burleun mountain station and follows a white-red-white waymarked mountain trail for around twelve kilometres to Breil/Brigels. Initially, the path crosses open meadows and pastures. At Chischarolas, there is a barbecue site directly beside the route. The terrain then becomes increasingly barren and rocky; the trail continues to climb without ever taking on the character of a true summit hike.

About halfway along, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,920 m. Crap Cavigliauna remains off the trail. From here, the long descent dominates. The route crosses alpine pastures to Alp da Stiarls, where another barbecue site lies close to the trail, before continuing towards the valley through sections of forest. Near the end, the houses of Breil/Brigels come into view. After a little over four hours and a total descent of around 1,000 metres, the hike ends in the village; the Breil/Brigels, casa communala bus stop is just a few steps away.
