Alpine Passes Trail, Stage 8/43

The first section of this lovely ridge path traverses meadowland and passes by a small reservoir. It climbs up to Piz Sezner between the Graubünden Oberland and Val Lumnezia, and descends into the valley again after about one kilometer. The destination is Vrin, the furthermost commune in the valley.

From the Vella, posta bus stop, the route leads through the village and past the protected Casti de Mont. Soon the white-red-white waymarked mountain trail climbs out of the valley. Stretches of forest alternate with open meadows and pastures; around 1,500 metres of ascent must be tackled in total.

After Stein, the trail continues along the ridge to Piz Sezner. At around 2,310 m, the highest point of the hike is reached. By this point, just under ten kilometres have been covered in a little over three hours. The long and at times steep descent defines the second half of the tour.

The mountain trail leads down over open slopes and through forest to Nussaus, then continues towards Vrin. There, the parish church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and St John the Baptist, visible from afar, heralds the destination. After around 21 kilometres and a little over seven and a half hours, the hike ends near the Vrin, vitg bus stop.
