01/ Overview
The route
This stage of the Grisons Way of St. James leads through the dreamy villages of the Surselva along the Vorderrhein, which winds through the valley in countless loops. Densely wooded meadows and historic churches and decorated town houses line the route to Disentis.
The roughly 13-kilometre hike begins in Trun. The route initially leads to Rabius between open meadows and sparsely developed hillsides. It then becomes a white-red-white marked mountain hiking trail and continues through the Surselva in a steady succession of ascents and descents.
At Runs, the small Caplutta Sontga Clau stands directly beside the route. Sumvitg soon follows, with Cumpadials further on. Pastures and stretches of woodland alternate between the villages; overall, the hike gains around 580 metres in elevation. The varied middle section ends at Pardomat, where the trail becomes wider and easier again.
In Disla, the route passes the Chapel of St Luzius at the western entrance to the village. From here, it continues to climb towards Disentis. Shortly before the destination, the highest point of the hike lies near Muota dil Tir at around 1,160 m. Disentis is reached a little later. Just over three and a half hours should be allowed for the entire route; the Disentis/Mustér, staziun/posta stop is only a few steps from the endpoint.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
