01/ Overview
The route
Wooded ridges, open pastures and views into the Emmental define this stage of the high-level trail. From the remote Obstaldenegg pass, it leads through the rolling hills of the Entlebuch to Turner.
The stage begins on Obstaldenegg, away from public transport; the nearest stop, Bramboden, Kirchplatz, is around 1.6 km away. From the pass, the hiking trail follows a wooded ridge. The Chapel of St Joseph stands at Oberberg, after which stretches of woodland alternate with open pastures.
At Gmeinwerch, views extend towards the Emmental; a drinks and snack vending machine provides an opportunity for a break. The route continues over Grätliegg in a steady succession of ascents and descents. Clearings repeatedly open up views across the rolling hills of the Entlebuch before the trail once again dips between the trees.
Near Altegrat, the stage reaches its highest point at around 1,230 m. From there, a gentle descent remains to Turner. A detour to Bock offers views of Escholzmatt. The destination is also away from public transport; the Trub, Furenbrücke stop is around 2.4 km away. The route itself ends at Turner.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
