Hohsaas Trail

A must for anyone who enjoys being out and about in high Alpine scenery. The snowshoe trail from Kreuzboden to the Hohsaas mountain station leads past the Weissmieshütte restaurant, offering stunning views of the 4000-metre peaks of the Saas Valley.

The snowshoe tour begins near the Kreuzboden stop at around 2,400 m, not far from the Kreuzboden mountain restaurant. With little opportunity to warm up, the route climbs steeply: around 760 metres of elevation are gained in just four kilometres. It initially crosses open terrain, with rocky slopes increasingly defining the ascent later on. The walking time is just over three hours.

After just over a third of the route, the Weissmieshütte SAC stands directly beside the trail. The mountain refuge belonging to the Olten Section of the SAC lies on the western side of the Lagginhorn; together with the old hut next door, it forms the Weissmieshütten. The steady ascent then continues through open, rocky terrain. It ends only at the destination in Hohsaas at around 3,140 m, which is also the highest point of the tour. The Hohsaas stop is just under 200 m away, with the Hohsaas mountain restaurant nearby.
