01/ Overview

The route

The descent leads along the northern slope of the Gürgaletsch through the wild Schanfigg valley and follows the Plessur River to the 5,000-year-old town of Chur. Light lark forests, the traditional Passugg Hotel Management School and tanned Walser houses catch the eye along the way.

The hike begins at the Tschiertschen, Dorf bus stop at around 1,350 m, also the highest point on the route. Setting off, the trail passes the listed Reformed church and soon leaves the village behind. A mountain trail descends through extensive forest, interspersed with open meadows and pastures.

After the first long descent, the route reaches Praden. The trail remains varied beyond the village: short climbs add up to around 240 metres of ascent, although the route is predominantly downhill overall. From Ausserpraden, it continues through forest and increasingly built-up areas to Passugg.

Towards the end, the city draws closer. Via Meiersboden and Araschgen, the trail descends once more and reaches Chur after 11 kilometres. The hike ends near the Chur Altstadt bus stop. Just over three hours should be allowed for the route, which involves around 1,000 metres of descent.
