01/ Overview

The route

Shortly after the start there is a superb view of Chur. The route leads across a ravine, fields and meadows to Domat/Ems, which was built around seven hills. We continue along the Senda Sursilvana to Tamins.

From the Chur Altstadt bus stop, the hike initially leads through Welschdörfli. The Friedenskirche, an Evangelical Methodist church, stands directly on the route. The houses are soon left behind as the path climbs across open terrain. Near Polentahügel, after almost three kilometres, it reaches its highest point at just over 700 metres.

A longer section then follows the white-red-white waymarked mountain trail. Woodland alternates with open terrain as the route gradually loses altitude again. Later, the path broadens and winds between the houses of Domat/Ems. Below Tuma Casté, Sogn Pieder stands directly on the route; the listed church lies to the east of the hill.

Towards the end, another section of mountain trail leads to Tamins. The Reformed church, visible from afar on its hill, heralds the village, although the route does not pass directly by it. After around 13 kilometres and a little over three and a half hours, the hike ends at the Tamins, Oberdorf bus stop.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
