Jaunpass Trail

A pass hike with panorama: Trudging through the versatile landscapes at the foot of Bäderhorn, you gaze into Niedersimmental and the Bernese Alps. Especially impressive: the rugged spikes of Gastlosen.

It is only a few steps from the Jaunpass, Restaurant bus stop to the starting point. The snowshoe tour begins at the top of the pass, which links the Fribourg region of Greyerzerland with the Simmental. At the Taverne, the houses are left behind as the loop heads out across open terrain. There is initially little difference in elevation to negotiate. The entire loop involves around 260 metres of ascent.

After the lowest point, the route gradually begins to climb, alternating between open slopes and woodland. Roughly halfway round comes the longer ascent to the highest point at around 1,670 m near Gislibühl; the summit itself is not reached. The loop then steadily loses elevation again. Passing through further stretches of woodland and across open pastures, the eight-kilometre circuit ends after just over three hours at the Jaunpass, Restaurant bus stop.
