01/ Overview
The route
The cross-country trail in Matt and Engi offers a chance to follow in the footsteps of the Russian general Suvorov. It is characterised by its sunny location and smooth terrain.
The roughly four-kilometre trail starts in Matt, just over 100 m from the Engi, Landesplattenberg bus stop. From the edge of the settlement, the track heads out across open meadows and continues along the valley floor with little ascent. Patches of woodland remain at the margins as the houses gradually recede.
About halfway along, the trail reaches its highest point at around 835 m. It then turns back towards Matt. Near the village, houses shape the scene; the Reformed church of Matt stands a little way from the trail. With only around 40 metres of ascent in total, the profile remains gentle and once again crosses open terrain. After just over an hour and a final gentle descent, the circuit returns to its starting point in Matt, not far from the Engi, Landesplattenberg bus stop.
