01/ Overview

The route

Easy – That’s how this snow shoe hike really is. The round tour leads in very simple terrain over the clearances of the Maraneralp. It suits anybody who likes to take it a bit more laid-back and still don’t want to relinquish on a great alpine panorama.

The two-kilometre snowshoe trail begins right by the Arosa, Maran bus stop. From the houses, the circular route heads out into open terrain. At first, the route descends gently to its lowest point before climbing again in a wide arc. Obersee, situated at 1,734 m, lies away from the snowshoe route. Open meadows characterise most of the circuit.

The ascent is spread gently over the short distance, amounting to around 90 metres of elevation gain in total. Shortly before the end, the route reaches its highest point at just under 1,900 m, with Maraner Hauptji the nearest summit. From there, the snowshoe trail leads back to the houses of Maran in just a few minutes. After around an hour, the circuit closes back at the Arosa, Maran bus stop.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
