01/ Overview

The route

Through the forest, over dreamy clearances, up to the Alp, past Lake Upper Prätschsee: This interesting round tour offers breath-taking views over the valley of Schanfigg and the mountain landscape of Arosa time and time again.

The loop begins at the Arosa, Maran stop and leads through open slopes and short stretches of forest; the track quickly reaches the Panorama Arosa viewpoint, with wide views over the valley and surrounding peaks. It then continues to the Prätschalp, a Beiz right on the trail that serves as a convenient place to rest.

Beyond the alp the route crosses alpine pastures and reaches the Ober Prätschsee, the lake lying only a few metres from the track. After that the snowshoe track climbs over open terrain up onto the ridge of the Maraner Hauptji; the highest point is at around 2'005 m. The loop closes back in Maran — about 4 km, roughly 180 metres of ascent and about 1¾ hours.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
