01/ Overview

The route

With ideal winter and cross-country skiing conditions, the Menzingen-Loipe trail, also known as the Schurtannenloipe, has become a real insider tip for cross-country skiers. The beautifully designed cross-country trail leads through stunning countryside with views of Menzingen and its monastery.

The five-kilometre circular trail begins in Stockacher, outside Menzingen. The starting point is not served directly by public transport; the nearest stop, Menzingen, Weid, is just under 900 m away. The terrain remains almost flat for the first few metres. From the start, the trail crosses open meadows, gaining little elevation over gentle rises and dips.

After a little over two kilometres, it reaches its highest point at around 840 m. The circuit then continues through open terrain. The Church of the Annunciation lies just over 100 m from the trail. With no lengthy ascents or descents, the route loops back towards Stockacher. After a little over an hour of cross-country skiing and around 40 metres of ascent in total, the trail ends exactly where it began in Menzingen, Stockacher.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
