01/ Overview
The route
A baroque abbey, the delightful landscape of Lake Sihl, the Schwyz mountains and the peaceful Schwantenau moor – the Schwedentritt half-marathon trail demands a huge effort from skiers, but also rewards them with magnificent views.
From the Einsiedeln, Brüel bus stop, it is only a few steps to the start by the Brüel multi-storey car park. The trail leaves the houses behind and heads out onto the broad plain beside the Sihlsee. At the Seglerbeizli, it reaches the shore of the reservoir that defines the Einsiedeln high valley.
The circuit now crosses open meadows and wetland areas. The gentle undulations add up to around 400 metres of ascent, giving the 23-kilometre trail its endurance-testing character. After just under nine kilometres, the highest section is reached at Galgenchappeli, at almost 940 m. The trail then descends gradually to the lower plain.
The return route continues to alternate between broad meadows and wet hollows. Towards the end, the houses of Einsiedeln draw closer again. After a good six hours, the circuit ends back at the Brüel multi-storey car park; the bus stop of the same name is around 200 metres away.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
