01/ Overview
The route
Escape the fog in the beautiful Ägerital valley and enjoy the winter landscape of Unterägeri on cross-country tracks with views of Ägerisee lake.
The circular trail begins in Schönenbühl above Unterägeri. The trailhead is some distance from public transport; from the nearest stop, Unterägeri, Chlösterli, it is around one kilometre to the start. From here, the trail initially crosses open terrain before repeatedly entering the forest.
Over the eight kilometres, gentle climbs alternate with short descents. The route gains around 180 metres in elevation overall, spread over a circuit taking just over two hours. The open countryside around Unterägeri characterises much of the route, while the forest sections provide a marked contrast.
In the second half, the trail climbs to its highest point at around 800 m, not far from Hünggigütsch. It then continues through further stretches of forest in a succession of climbs and descents. The final open sections complete the circuit back at the starting point in Schönenbühl.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
