01/ Overview
The route
The Trachslau cross-country ski track is a circuit for connoisseurs. A footpath leads from Einsiedeln station along the river to the start and finish area. The sunny and mostly flat route leads past farms, the Au convent and the Alp stream.
From the Einsiedeln, Allmeindstrasse stop, it is around 200 m to the start at Grotzenmühle. The trail heads out across the open meadows around Einsiedeln, initially climbing gently. The ten-kilometre circuit involves a total ascent of around 150 metres; a good two and a half hours should be allowed for the route.
After just over four kilometres, the route reaches its highest point near Ruchegg at around 970 m. From there, it gradually descends again, with broad, open expanses dominating the scenery. In the second half, the houses of Einsiedeln draw closer. Around two-thirds of the way along, the trail passes Café Tändli before completing its loop across the meadows. The finish is back at Grotzenmühle; from there, it is around 200 m to the Einsiedeln, Allmeindstrasse stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
