01/ Overview
The route
Moorlands, springs and small waterfalls line the long mountain trail from Gfellen to Wasserfallenegg and below Fürstein. Along the way, Änggelauenenseeli is the only natural lake in the Entlebuch.
From the Gfellen PostBus stop, the Moorland Landscape Trail initially leads out of the small village. Between forest and open pastures, it begins its crossing of the Glaubenberg landscape, Switzerland’s largest moorland region. Raised bogs and fens, pools, springs and streams line the route to Gürmschmoos.
The mountain trail then becomes steeper as it climbs to Wasserfallenegg. Here, the legend of the dragon said to be buried in a natural-stone wall is as much a part of the area as the landslide sites and gorges. Änggelauenenseeli is the only natural lake in the Entlebuch. Continuing in a steady succession of ascents and descents, Fürstein comes into view, although the summit itself lies off the route.
At just over 1,780 m, the trail reaches its highest point. It then descends across open alpine pastures and through short stretches of forest. Much of the route follows narrow mountain trails, interspersed with short unmarked sections. After just under five hours, the hike ends at the Alprestaurant Stäldeli, around 3.3 km from the nearest stop, Flühli LU, Hüttlenen.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
