01/ Overview
The route
The snowshoe hike to Obererbs is a perfect way to get back to nature, far from the bustle of everyday life. Pass through woodlands and meadows, always surrounded by mighty Glarus peaks like the Hausstock, Vorab and Tschingelhörner.
The snowshoe tour begins at Walenbrugg above Elm, away from public transport. The nearest stop, Elm, Büelstafel, is around 800 m away. From here, the route climbs across open slopes before entering the forest. Over five kilometres, it gains around 440 metres in elevation.
After just over three kilometres, the highest point is reached near Ärbser Stock. At around 1,700 m, the ascent eases. The circuit then heads back down towards the valley, alternating between open terrain and forest. Just over three hours should be allowed for the entire circuit. The descent brings the snowshoe route back to its starting point at Elm, Walenbrugg.
