01/ Overview
The route
From the historic pass village of Splügen, the trail initially follows the tracks of pack-drivers of old, over the Panell down to Sufner See. Admire the Sufnerberge, where Heidi, featuring famous Swiss actor Bruno Ganz, was filmed in 2015.
The snowshoe tour starts near the village at the Splügen, Hüscherenbach stop. The route initially climbs briskly through the forest. After just under two kilometres, it reaches its highest point near the Rundhorn at around 1,650 m. By here, a large part of the total ascent of approximately 380 metres has already been completed.
The route then descends into more open terrain. Meadows and pastures replace the forest, and near the lowest point the view opens up towards Sufnersee. The reservoir lies slightly off the route and is not reached directly.
On the return to Splügen, gentle climbs alternate with flatter sections. The route gains height once more before descending again to the starting point. After around nine kilometres and just under four hours, the circular tour ends back near the Splügen, Hüscherenbach stop.
