Panoramaweg Gadastatt–Zervreila

This winter walk is the most popular one in the Vals valley, which is no surprise, as the water is reached effortlessly across open, snow-covered moorland. Walkers are accompanied all the way by stunning, Alpine scenery, which culminates in the Zervreilahorn – also known as the Matterhorn of the Grisons.

The winter hike, around five kilometres long, begins at the Gadastatt bus stop. The route initially leads through the settlement and out into open terrain. After a short descent, the climb begins; meadows and pastures dominate the landscape, with the trail crossing rocky sections near the Kristallloch.

Higher up, open slopes alternate with woodland. After just over an hour and a half, the route reaches its highest point near Dachberg at just under 2,000 m. Shortly afterwards stands the chapel of St. Anna, north of and above the dam of the Zervreilasee. From here, the winter trail descends towards Zervreila.

At the destination lies the Zervreilasee, whose name recalls the former village of Zervreila: it was submerged when the reservoir was created in 1957. Between Frunthorn, Fanellhorn and Zervreilahorn, the tour ends after around two hours at the Vals, Zervreila bus stop.
