01/ Overview
The route
From Wirzweli, the snowshoe trail climbs across open slopes and through forest to the ridge. Views of the Central Swiss and Glarus Alps accompany the route as far as Gummenalp.
The start of the snowshoe trail is just a few steps from the Wirzweli stop. The cable car from Dallenwil and a shuttle bus from the railway station provide access to the starting point. The ascent begins at Alpenrestaurant Wirzweli. The route soon leaves the houses behind and crosses open slopes before the ridge becomes wooded.
On the Wirzweligrat, the trail climbs gently but steadily. Along the way, the Wirzwelihorn and the split rock face dominate the surroundings, while views of the Central Swiss and Glarus Alps open up between the trees. In good visibility, the panorama extends as far as Säntis. Fox or hare tracks may be visible along the route.
Near Gummen, the highest point of the tour lies at just under 1,600 m. From there, the destination of Gummenalp remains at almost the same elevation. After around two and a half hours, the snowshoe trail ends there; the Gummenalp–Eggwald cable car offers a shorter return journey, while the Tannenpfad provides an alternative route back in the opposite direction.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
