01/ Overview
The route
Through fir forest and across open alpine pastures, the Fir Trail climbs from Wirzweli to Gummenalp. A stream crossing at Ronemattligraben and almost 400 metres of ascent characterise this short snowshoe tour.
From Wirzweli mountain station, reached by cable car from Dallenwil, the marked Fir Trail initially leads between the houses. The snowshoe trail soon enters the fir forest and runs parallel to the Arvitrail as far as Hinterhegen. The long ascent begins at Hinter Huismatt; the settlement is left behind as the route continues through the forest. Checking the current avalanche situation before setting out is an essential part of the preparations.
Higher up, the route leads to Gummenmattli and into the Ronen area. A mountain stream is crossed at Ronemattligraben. Denser stretches of forest then alternate with clearings and open alpine pastures. The gradient steepens again over the final metres of ascent, reaching Gummenalp after just over two hours. At around 1,580 m, this is also the highest point of the snowshoe tour, close to Berggasthaus Gummenalp. For the return journey, the cable car runs from Gummenalp to Eggwald.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
