01/ Overview
The route
At the foot of the Chasseral, high on the Plateau of Diesse, this magnificent snow-shoe excursion at about 1,200 m above sea level offers an astounding view over the plateau and the Alpine chain, all in beautifully wooded terrain.
The snowshoe tour begins in Nods, a little above the village. There is no bus stop directly at the starting point: it is around 450 m from «Nods, bas du village» to the start. From there, the route climbs uphill and soon enters the forest. Almost all of the 340 metres of ascent are gained over the first four kilometres.
Higher up, the forest thins out and open terrain dominates the landscape. Just over two-thirds of the way around the six-kilometre circuit, the highest point is reached at around 1,270 m; the Chasseral is the nearest summit. The route then descends again towards the village over the remaining two kilometres. After just under three hours, the circuit ends back in Nods, once again around 450 m from the «Nods, bas du village» bus stop.
