01/ Overview
The route
This rewarding tour leads through the home country of the Freiberger horses, to the small Jurassic town of Saignelégier. Here you can enjoy wide views over the extensive Jura pastures as well as the Franches-Montagnes district.
The eleven-kilometre circuit begins at Saignelégier railway station in the heart of the village. Near the church, the route leaves the settlement behind, and open meadows and pastures soon dominate the landscape. The ascent remains gentle. After around three kilometres, the route reaches its highest point at just over 1,000 m. A longer section here runs outside the marked hiking trail network before rejoining a yellow-marked hiking trail at Les Cerlatez.
The landscape remains open and only sparsely settled. The route continues through gently undulating terrain between pastures and small clusters of houses. Les Emibois is a good place for a short break; Au Pain d’Antan lies directly on the route. Another unmarked section follows before the hiking trail completes the wide loop back to Saignelégier. Towards the end, the route climbs gently and returns to the railway station after a little over two and a half hours.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
