01/ Overview
The route
This snowshoe hike takes you from the Alpe des Chaux at the foot of the flattening Diablerets mountain range past the charming hamlet of Taveyanne with its wooden shingle roofs. Following the course of the Gryonne river, you pass some sleepy alpine huts and cross quiet streams winding their way under the snow.
The snowshoe tour begins directly beside the Alpe des Chaux, Combe du Scex bus stop. It initially crosses open pastureland on a gentle incline. The route approaches Taveyanne in broad sweeps. Shortly after the village, near Le Coin, it reaches its highest point at around 1'650 m. Just over three kilometres have been covered by this point, and most of the approximately 190 metres of ascent is already complete.
The snowshoe route then continues mainly downhill. Open pastures alternate with sections of woodland, with the descent spread over several kilometres. Just over two-thirds of the way along the route, it passes directly by the Buvette de la Verneyre. From there, the descent continues. Arveyes railway station is just under 300 m from the finish; after a total of ten kilometres and almost four hours, the tour ends at Roches Grises in Villars-sur-Ollon.
