01/ Overview

The route

The circular hike in the heart of the Val d'Entremont leads up to the summit of the Tsamonay, affording impressive 360-degree views of the mighty Combin massif and Mont Dolent, located in the border triangle. The sleepy mountain valley surprises with charming villages, sunny slopes and amazing views of the highest peaks in the Alps.

From the Le Chapelet bus stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point of the snowshoe tour. The route initially climbs through the forest before the trees give way to open slopes. The long ascent gains around 600 metres in elevation and reaches Tsamonay in just over two hours.

Near the summit, the circuit reaches its highest point at just over 2,100 metres. The trail then descends across open terrain towards the forest, once again alternating between sparse woodland and open slopes. The descent follows a wide loop and returns to Le Chapelet after a total of just over four and a half hours. Shortly before the end, Restaurant Le Chapelet stands directly on the route; a few steps further on, the starting point by the bus stop is reached once more.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
