01/ Overview
The route
Descend from the summit of La Breya in Champex-Lac along this approximately 6 kilometre sledge run into the wild Arpette valley. The end of the valley with the Col des Ecandies forms the pass to the Plateau de Trient glacier massif. The descent boasts an impressive view of mountain peaks surrounded by firs, larches, arolla pines and pine forests.
At the La Breya stop, the descent begins at Grands Plans at around 2,200 m, the highest point on the route. Below the summit of La Breya, which towers above Champex-Lac, the toboggan run initially crosses open, partly rocky terrain. Over six kilometres, it descends a total of around 700 metres and soon enters the forest.
Long sweeping stretches lead downhill until the first houses appear at Arpette. The descent then continues through more forest and open terrain to Champex-Lac. The finish is near the 1,498 m Col de Champex; the Champex, télé stop is only a few steps away. Lac de Champex is not directly on the route, but around 500 m farther on by the village.
