01/ Overview
The route
This cross-country skiing trail overlooking Villars will take you along the Gryonne river to the top of the Col de la Croix. From this high point, you continue along the Gryon sector via La Place or head down towards Les Frasses via Le Luissalet.
The 14-kilometre cross-country ski trail begins near Arveyes railway station, on the outskirts of Villars-sur-Ollon. It initially climbs steadily through open terrain. After almost three kilometres, the route passes directly by the Buvette de la Verneyre before sections of woodland break up the ascent.
Around halfway, the trail passes close to the Col de la Croix. At approximately 1,770 m, near the Tête de Meilleret, this is the highest point of the loop. The pass separates the Vaud Prealps from the Vaud Alps and lies between Bex and Les Diablerets.
The trail then heads downhill again. Longer sections through woodland alternate with open areas as the loop closes towards Villars-sur-Ollon. After just over four hours, the cross-country ski route ends back at the starting point near Arveyes railway station.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
