01/ Overview
The route
A short winter circuit between Rigi Kaltbad and Rigi First, accompanied by conglomerate rock walls and sweeping views over Lake Lucerne.
The short winter circuit starts directly at the Rigi Kaltbad-First stop. Rigi Kaltbad can be reached by cogwheel railway from Vitznau or by cable car from Weggis. Around 30 minutes should be allowed for the approximately two-and-a-half-kilometre route. From the village square, the route leads between the houses to the Reformed mountain church, designed by architect Ernst Giesel.
The trail then continues gently towards Rigi First. Between open areas and houses, views open up over Lake Lucerne. In Rigi First, the Bärenstube lies close to the route; a little further on, striking conglomerate rock walls line the trail. The highest point, at just under 1,500 m, is reached shortly after the halfway mark.
The circuit returns to Rigi Kaltbad via the Oberer Firstweg, with only gentle gradients. The final section re-enters the built-up area and ends at the Rigi Kaltbad-First stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
