Romont Stained Glass Trail

An undulating pathway in the heart of the Glâne’s green landscape, discovering churches and their remarkable, well-preserved, stained-glass windows. The starting point for the walk is the jewel crown of the region: the Vitromusée Romont, the Swiss Museum of Stained Glass and Glass Art.

The circular hike begins at the Romont FR, école primaire bus stop and heads straight to the town’s striking buildings. Passing the Collégiale Notre-Dame de l’Assomption and the Château de Romont, the route sets an impressive opening note before heading out into the open hills.

Beyond Mézières, the route continues uphill on waymarked hiking trails. After around five kilometres through meadows and pastures, it reaches its highest point at just over 850 m. The trail then continues with gentle ups and downs. Small settlements punctuate the expansive agricultural landscape; the total ascent amounts to around 500 metres.

Later, the circular route passes through Berlens and by the church of Notre-Dame de l’Epine. On the final section, open countryside once again alternates with sparsely built-up areas. Near Chavannes-sous-Romont, the Abbaye de la Fille Dieu lies directly on the route. From there, the trail loops back to Romont. Just over four hours should be allowed for the 16-kilometre hike, which ends back at the bus stop.
